Employer Identification Number (EIN)
Also known as a Federal Tax Identification Number, an Employer Identification Number (EIN) is a 9-digit number assigned by the Internal Revenue Services (IRS) to identify a business entity. Generally, businesses need an EIN. EINs can also be helpful for independent contractors as they can add legitimacy to a business and help access business bank accounts and loans. To apply for an EIN, you must have an SSN or an ITIN.
