American Public Strongly Supports DREAMers’ Citizenship and Increased Access to Higher Education

Washington, DC – New polling released this week finds overwhelming public support for DREAMers, including for policies that would make DREAMers eligible for citizenship and increase their access to higher education.

Conducted by the Global Strategy Group on behalf of FWD.us, the new polling finds that the public broadly supports policies that would increase DREAMers’ eligibility for in-state tuition at public colleges and universities (63% support and 27% oppose) and Pell Grants (59% support vs. 29% oppose).

Meanwhile, the poll also finds overwhelming support for DREAMers having an opportunity to gain citizenship, with 77% of poll respondents overall and majorities of all party affiliations supporting citizenship for DREAMers who arrived in the U.S. as minors and have lived here for at least four years, among other conditions.

According to Gaby Pacheco, Director of Advocacy, Development, and Communications at TheDream.US:

“The American public recognizes what our powerful stories of TheDream.US Scholars demonstrate and what our partner colleges across America can attest to firsthand: increasing DREAMers’ opportunities and access to higher education and their abilities to give back to the country they call home will benefit all of us.”

TheDream.US is the nation’s largest college access and success program for immigrant youth, having provided more than 5,000 scholarships to students with DACA and TPS at more than 75 partner colleges in 15 states and Washington, DC.
