Career Opportunity: Director of Communications

Update May 18, 2026: After an internal reassessment, we have decided to take the role in a different direction and will no longer continue the current search process. We are deeply grateful to all candidates for their time, interest, and commitment to supporting first-generation Dreamer college students.

TheDream.US is seeking a bold, strategic, and creative leader to serve as our next Director of Strategic Communications and Engagement.

This is a senior leadership opportunity for someone ready to help Dreamers access higher education, shape the national narrative, guide high-impact engagement strategies, and drive systems that ensure clear, compelling, and mission-aligned communications across the organization.

If you believe in the power of education, immigrant talent, and narrative change — we want to hear from you.

Position Summary

The Director of Strategic Communications and Engagement is a senior-level leadership role responsible for setting the vision, priorities, and systems that drive TheDream.US’s communications and engagement strategy.

Reporting to the President & CEO, this role operates at a 30,000-foot view — aligning messaging with organizational goals, building workflows and accountability structures, and ensuring high-quality execution through staff, interns, and external partners.

In our lean, high-impact environment, the Director is both strategist and player-coach. They will:

  • Lead communications to 12,000+ Scholars and Alumni and 80+ Partner Colleges
  • Help guide national media strategy and narrative development
  • Oversee digital, social, email, website, and multimedia platforms
  • Integrate data and Scholar/Alumni stories into advocacy and narrative change efforts
  • Serve as an ambassador for TheDream.US in national conversations
  • Steward communications-related budgets, contracts, and technology systems
  • Build and maintain disciplined project management structures that ensure clear ownership, accountability, effective delegation, and on-time execution across staff, interns, and external partners

The ideal candidate is an exceptional writer and editor, fluent in Spanish, deeply committed to undocumented immigrant youth, and experienced in strategic advocacy communications.
