Gaby Pacheco of TheDream.US Reacts to Senate Parliamentarian Ruling on Immigration

Gaby Pacheco: “This ruling has not changed the goal and importance of what’s at stake – just the process for getting it done”

Washington, DC – The following is a statement from Gaby Pacheco, Director of Advocacy, Communications, and Development for TheDream.US reacting to the Senate parliamentarian’s ruling on immigration tonight.

“This ruling has not changed the goal and importance of what’s at stake – just the process for getting it done. We need to secure a path to citizenship for Dreamers and other long-settled immigrants by whatever avenues are available. While the parliamentarian closed off one approach today, it merely shifts the focus to other ways to achieve a breakthrough that has been twenty years in the making.

But all the complicated Senate and congressional processes and procedures should not take away from this fundamental reality: for more than two decades, Dreamers and millions of other long-settled immigrants have been waiting for Congress to deliver citizenship that is strongly backed by a bipartisan majority of the American public. As they’ve waited, immigrants have demonstrated every single day in workplaces, classrooms, and communities across America why securing their futures in this country is good for all of us.

It’s time, through any means necessary, for Congress to stand with the American people and millions of immigrant families and find a way to finally deliver life-changing legislation.”
