Gaby Pacheco Reacts to 5th Circuit DACA Ruling
Washington, DC – The following is a statement from Gaby Pacheco, President and CEO of TheDream.US, reacting to this afternoon’s ruling by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program:
“While we join legal experts and others in reviewing the fine print and specific implications of today’s ruling, the first paragraph in today’s decision notes one of the key points of emphasis: today’s ruling is just ‘the latest chapter in the long-running litigation’ challenging DACA.
- It’s been 24 years since the bipartisan DREAM Act was introduced in 2001.
- 13 years since the DACA program started in 2012.
After the latest legal ruling, it’s time we finally delivered a fix for Dreamers – with and without DACA. As Donald Trump stated on “Meet the Press” in December 2024:
‘We have to do something about the Dreamers, because these are people that have been brought here at a very young age, and many of these are middle-aged people now, they don’t even speak the language of their country. I will work with the Democrats on a plan. They were brought into this country many years ago.’”
Congress must act now. Dreamers can’t wait. Families can’t wait. America can’t wait.
