Gaby Pacheco Reacts to Release of Annie Ramos from Detention
Gaby Pacheco: “Dreamers like Annie are valuable parts of American families and communities. They should be candidates for U.S. citizenship instead of targets for deportation.”
Washington, DC – As the New York Times first reported, Annie Ramos was released from immigration detention in Louisiana today. Annie, a 22-year old biochemistry student and TheDream.US Scholar, was detained by ICE last Thursday after accompanying her U.S. Army staff sergeant husband to his military base.
The following is a statement from Gaby Pacheco, President & CEO of TheDream.US:
“I am overjoyed that Annie Ramos is now released from detention, able to reunite with her husband and family, and can continue pursuing her degree and building her future in this nation.
Yet Annie’s detention never should have happened in the first place. It only weakens our nation and undermines our values when Annie and countless other Dreamers are targeted for detention and, in too many cases, deportation.
As I said yesterday, Annie’s case should be a wake up call for all of us, including President Trump. Dreamers like Annie are valuable parts of American families and communities. They should be candidates for U.S. citizenship instead of targets for deportation.”
