We have great hope that a new day is dawning. On his first day, President Biden took steps to fortify DACA and has committed to pursue legislation providing DREAMers with DACA/TPS immediate permanent residency and DREAMers without DACA/TPS a path to citizenship. While passing comprehensive legislation will be difficult, we remain hopeful and will keep you updated.
Many of you have asked about the impact of permanent residency on your TheDream.US scholarship. Once you have permanent residency, you are eligible for the federal Pell Grant, loans, and work study. Under our current guidelines, if you receive permanent residency, you are no longer eligible to receive our award but you do remain a Scholar and have access to our college and career supports. You can read more about this in your National Scholarship Program Guide.
Should Congress pass legislation giving DACA/TPS holders permanent residency, we will reassess our policies and give you plenty of heads up if there are any changes.
While DACA is firmly in place for now, there is a pending Texas court case that could disrupt or end the program. If you have questions about your immigration status, join our Immigration Office Hours (check your email for link to join) on the last Thursday of the month at 8:00 p.m. ET.
- If you do not have DACA and are eligible to apply – consult with a legal advisor and apply as soon as possible. You may be eligible for a grant from us to help pay for the costs of DACA.
- If you have DACA, file your renewal application well before it expires.
