Washington, DC – In a new 30-second video released today, TheDream.US highlights that denying Texas Dreamers in-state tuition access doesn’t just hurt Dreamers, but all of us.
The “Support Dreamers, Strengthen Texas” video features images of Dreamers’ “disappearance” from campuses, classrooms, and a hospital where one is working as a nurse – a realistic set of scenarios due to the new restrictions on tuition equity facing Dreamers in Texas.
For decades, in-state tuition access in Texas was a lifeline for Dreamers and the state – opening doors to higher education and fueling Texas’ economic growth, innovation, and workforce. Unfortunately, in June 2025, coordinated announcements from the U.S. Department of Justice and the State of Texas effectively ended in-state tuition access for Texas Dreamers, limiting options for many students who have grown up in the state.
According to Gaby Pacheco, President & CEO of TheDream.US: “Dreamers in Texas are not outsiders – they are Texans and are already woven into the fabric of the state. While we push for Texas to restore tuition equity policy, we also know that this issue is larger than solely an access to education issue. Ultimately, we need a federal solution and for our representatives in Washington, DC to deliver permanent opportunities and protections for Dreamers. That’s the long overdue answer Dreamers and our country deserve.”
