SAC Partners with TheDream.US

TheDream.US aims to provide a low-cost, high quality college education to undocumented students, serving immigrant youth who have received Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). The organization’s vision is that all DREAMers should have the opportunity to realize the American dream of obtaining a college education and contributing to the prosperity of the U.S.

SAC was selected to become one of the more than 70 colleges across the country to partner with TheDream.US based on its affordable career-ready associates degree programs, its focus on college completion with the annual Be SAC Proud campaign, and the availability of academic and social support services for special populations. With the partnership, SAC has committed to provide a designated advisor to TheDream.US Scholars. This advisor will work with scholarship recipients to develop and manage individual education plans to insure they complete their educational goals.

Texas is the second largest DREAMer populated state, with an estimated 226,000 undocumented immigrant youth – 109,724 of whom have received DACA and have lawful presence and authorization to work. Bexar County is home to 14,000 potential DACA beneficiaries. SAC joins Palo Alto College and Texas A&M – San Antonio as the first three San Antonio higher education institutions to partner with TheDream.US.

Students who are interested in applying for TheDream.US scholarship and plan to attend SAC can go to www.thedream.us/apply and submit an application before the February 15, 2016 deadline.
