WASHINGTON, DC — TheDream.US, the nation’s largest college access and success program for undocumented immigrant youth, has launched a “DREAMer of the Day” feature – a daily profile of a TheDream.US-affiliated Scholar whose story offers a powerful example why Congress passing legislation resolving the crisis facing DREAMers and TPS holders will be good for America.
Today’s DREAMer of the Day is Saira Martinez (Mechanical Engineering ’21), a resident of South Carolina who attends Christian Brothers University (CBU) in Memphis, Tennessee.
Christian Brothers University President, Dr. John Smarrelli Jr. stated the following:
“CBU is founded upon the Lasallian educational tradition, and one of its core principles is to foster an inclusive community. St. John Baptist de La Salle, the founder of the Christian Brothers order, wrote, ‘It is impossible to please God if you do not live on friendly terms with others.’ We still firmly believe and practice that at CBU — we respect and celebrate the diversity of our student body, which makes support of the Dreamers part of our mission. These remarkable young people have worked tirelessly to achieve academically at the highest levels, knowing their futures are never guaranteed. They came here and made CBU their home, joining an already multicultural and multinational family, adding yet another vibrant layer to our community. The Dreamers at CBU have enriched us with their presence. They represent the best of our nation and our hope for a brighter tomorrow.”
