Dear TheDream.US Scholars and Alumni,

Today, Senators Dick Durbin and Lisa Murkowski reintroduced the bipartisan Dream Act in the U.S. Senate — a major step forward in the fight for permanent protections for Dreamers.
As Dreamers across the country face detention, deportation threats, and growing uncertainty, this legislation offers a real pathway to safety, stability, and the futures you deserve.
We’ve all seen what happens when America says “yes” to Dreamers through programs like DACA: you excel in school, build careers, strengthen families, and contribute to your communities as nurses, teachers, business owners, and leaders. The Dream Act would protect all Dreamers — including those not covered by DACA/TPS.
Here’s a quick overview of who would qualify if the bill becomes law:
- Came to the U.S. before age 18
- Lived here for at least 4 years
- Graduated from a U.S. high school or earned a GED, or are currently enrolled in high school, college, or a GED program
- Have paid taxes
- Have not committed a serious crime, are not a national security threat, and can pass a background check
- Military service is an additional pathway for eligibility
To reiterate the Dream Act applies to Dreamers with or without DACA or TPS, as long as the requirements are met.
This is only the first step. Congress must now debate and pass the bill, and the President must sign it. We’ve been here before — your resilience, your stories, and your contributions have brought us to every milestone along the way, and they will carry us through this one as well.
At TheDream.US, we are committed to fighting alongside you. We will be working with educators, business leaders, Members of Congress, allies, and supporters to push this legislation forward. Your voice matters in this moment.
