Washington, DC – The following is a statement from Gaby Pacheco, Director of Advocacy, Communications and Development of TheDream.US reacting to Friday’s DACA ruling fully reinstating the program:

“Friday’s court ruling to fully reinstate DACA is the latest hopeful sign for DREAMers. We are nearing the end of a painful year for immigrant youth, during which the pandemic has hit their families disproportionately hard, on top of a challenging four year stretch that saw the DACA program and DREAMers’ futures in this country under attack.

Thankfully, the tide is turning and DREAMers can start looking forward with hope and planning their futures in America with more confidence. Friday’s ruling joins other hopeful recent developments for DREAMers, such as President-elect Biden’s commitments to reinstate DACA on Day One of his presidency and to work with Congress to pursue legislation to provide citizenship for immigrant youth. A recent survey of TheDream.US Scholars found that despite the challenges they face, DREAMers remain focused on completing college, giving back to their communities, and ambitiously pursuing their post-college goals.

Despite all these important signs of hope, immigrant youth continue to face barriers in pursuing their higher education goals, with DREAMers ineligible for federal financial aid and ineligible for in-state tuition rates in many states. At TheDream.US, we are proud that our scholarship’s expanded eligibility criteria opens applications to DREAMers who have DACA, TPS or who came to the country before November 1, 2015 and otherwise meet the DACA eligibility criteria. We encourage all immigrant youth interested in pursuing higher education to learn more about this opportunity to fulfill their dream of a college education and meaningful career.”
