WASHINGTON (TheDream.US) — TheDream.US, the nation’s largest immigrant youth college access program, announced the opening of its new round of scholarships for the 2021-2022 academic year. The organization’s expanded eligibility criteria open applications to DREAMers who have DACA, TPS, or who arrived in the country before November 1, 2015, and who otherwise meet the DACA eligibility criteria.
According to Candy Marshall, President of TheDream.US: “We are proud to be able to support motivated DREAMers who want nothing more than to get a college education but cannot afford the cost. The recent election results and President-elect Biden’s commitments to reestablish the DACA program and pursue a path to citizenship, provide hope that DREAMers can safely plan for their future. This includes pursuing a college education and careers that allow them to use their stamina and determination to help rebuild our economy. “
“However, DREAMers face ongoing barriers when trying to pursue their higher education, as they are not eligible for federal financial aid and face other access and affordability challenges. As our scholarship round opens for the next academic year, we want the immigrant community and its allies to be aware of our expanded eligibility criteria to support more DREAMers in their college goals.”
The Opportunity Scholarship is for students who live in specific states in which they cannot earn in-state tuition. The Opportunity Scholarship provides up to $ 80,000 toward a high school diploma, which covers tuition, fees, and on-campus room and board. The deadline to apply is January 28, 2021.
