Washington, DC – TheDream.US, the nation’s largest college access and success program for immigrant youth, today offered a reminder that its Scholarship round for the 2022-2023 academic year is open for North Carolina immigrant students. Applications are open to immigrant students with or without DACA or TPS who came to the U.S. before the age of 16 and before Nov. 1, 2016. We welcome all undocumented students who meet our eligibility criteria to apply before the deadlines at the end of January and February.

TheDream.US offers two types of scholarships to undocumented students living in North Carolina – one for North Carolina students to attend one of its out-of-state Partner Colleges and one for North Carolina students to attend Wingate University – a new Partner College of TheDream.US. In total, TheDream.US has provided over 230 scholarships to students from North Carolina.

  • The Opportunity Scholarship provides up to $80,000 to for tuition, fees, and on-campus housing and meals for a bachelor’s degree at one of four out-of-state colleges which are dedicated to supporting the higher education needs of DREAMers: Christian Brothers University in Tennessee; Delaware State University; Dominican University in suburban Chicago; Eastern Connecticut State University; and Trinity Washington University in Washington, D.C. Deadline for applications to the Opportunity Scholarship is January 31, 2022.
  • The National Scholarship is for high school or community college graduates to attend Wingate University in North Carolina. These students will receive up to $37,000 for tuition, fees, books, and supplies for a bachelor’s degree. Deadline for applications to the National Scholarship is February 28, 2022.

According to North Carolina State Representative Ricky Hurtado: “North Carolina moves forward when all of our communities move forward. That’s why I’m thrilled to see TheDream.US partner with Wingate University to expand pathways to opportunity for immigrant youth. With this scholarship, these students will finally be able to achieve their dream of a college education. This is a big win for our state and more importantly, our students.”

According to Gaby Pacheco, Director of Advocacy, Communications, and Development of TheDream.US: “We are proud to support highly motivated immigrant youth in North Carolina and across the country in their pursuit of higher education and a meaningful career. Through the stories and successes of our more than 2,100 TheDream.US college graduates and our currently enrolled Scholars, we have seen how providing opportunities to immigrant youth transforms lives and strengthens our shared country. We want to thank Wingate University and our Partner Colleges across America for their dedication and support and for helping us support additional DREAMers’ college and career goals.”
