Washington, DC – TheDream.US, the nation’s largest college access and success program for immigrant youth, today offered a reminder that its Scholarship round for the 2022-2023 academic year is open for Rio Grande Valley area immigrant students. Applications are open to immigrant students with or without DACA or TPS who came to the U.S. before the age of 16 and before Nov. 1, 2016. We welcome all undocumented students who meet our eligibility criteria to apply before the deadlines at the end of January and February.

TheDream.US offers the National Scholarship to undocumented first-time college students or community college graduates living in Texas to attend The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley and the following Partner Colleges: University of Houston, San Antonio College, Texas A&M University San Antonio, the University of Texas at El Paso, and the University of North Texas at Dallas. These students will receive up to $37,000 for tuition, fees, books, and supplies for a bachelor’s degree. Deadline for applications to the National Scholarship is February 28, 2022. In total, TheDream.US has provided over 1,340 scholarships to students from Texas.

According to Gaby Pacheco, Director of Advocacy, Communications, and Development of TheDream.US: “We are proud to support highly motivated immigrant youth in Texas and across the country in their pursuit of higher education and a meaningful career. Through the stories and successes of our more than 2,100 TheDream.US college graduates and our currently enrolled Scholars, we have seen how providing opportunities to immigrant youth transforms lives and strengthens our shared country. We want to thank our Partner Colleges in Texas and across America for their dedication and support and for helping us support additional DREAMers’ college and career goals.”

According to Maciel, a TheDream.US Scholar and 2019 graduate of The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley: “TheDream.US gave me the opportunity to obtain my degree in which I was concern in high school that I wasn’t going to be able to have the chance due to financial problems. The program has given me hope and the sense that I belong in this country. That there are people in this country willing to fight for our civil rights and giving us the opportunity to demonstrate we can also contribute in making this country better.”
