TheDream.US Scholarship Application Round Open to DREAMers With and Without DACA
Survey of DACA Recipients Shows Importance of Opportunities for DREAMers Ahead of February 28 TheDream.US Scholarship Application Deadline
Washington, DC – A new survey of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients conducted by Dr. Tom Wong of UC San Diego on behalf of the Center for American Progress (CAP) and partners again shows that expanding opportunities for DREAMers transforms lives and strengthens our shared country.
As CAP notes, the findings show, “significant contributions that DACA recipients are making to the U.S. economy and their communities, with approximately 9 out of every 10 respondents currently enrolled in school or employed,” but noting that continued legal challenges threaten the “the gains made possible through DACA.” The findings echo those of TheDream.US’ December 2021 alumni survey, which documented both the demonstrated contributions and persistent barriers that TheDream.US Scholars and other Dreamers face.
The reminders of the importance of opportunities for DREAMers and in light of the precarious state of DACA, TheDream.US today offered a reminder that its 2022-2023 scholarship application round is open to immigrant students with or without DACA or TPS who came to the U.S. before the age of 16 and before Nov. 1, 2016. We welcome all undocumented students of all backgrounds who meet our eligibility criteria to apply before the February 28, 2022 deadline.
According to Gaby Pacheco, Director of Advocacy, Communications, and Development of TheDream.US: “This year, TheDream.US aims to award more scholarships than ever before and we invite both immigrant youth with and without DACA to apply before the end of February. We know that providing opportunities to immigrant students can change lives and we are proud to help DREAMers afford and succeed in college and beyond.”
