Dear Scholars,
I wanted to share an update following the latest court hearing on DACA, which took place yesterday at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit. Miriam Jordan’s piece in The New York Times captures the essence of what happened in court. The hearing, which marks yet another pivotal moment for the future of DACA, revolved around key arguments for and against the program.
I had the privilege of being present at the hearing, sitting alongside some of our own Scholars and Alumni. I showed up not just to be in solidarity with you, but to ensure that you know we are with you every step of the way. As I sat there, I couldn’t help but think of the strength and resilience each of you has demonstrated over the years. Your contributions to this country, your families, and your communities cannot be understated.
Know that no matter what happens, TheDream.US is with you. You are not alone. We will continue to support you in every way possible as we navigate these uncertain times.
Now, more than ever, it’s important to stay prepared and proactive. If you haven’t already, please take the time to:
- Explore other immigration options: Whether through D-3, family petitions, or any other pathways, please seek ways to secure another status. Use this resource to search for free or low-cost immigration legal services providers.
If you have DACA, please take the time to:
- Renew your DACA on time: Remember to renew 150 days before your expiration date. Remember, we partner with Mission Asset Fund to provide DACA Renewal Fee assistance. More information here.
- Consider using Advance Parole: If possible, take advantage of the opportunity to travel and return with lawful entry.
As Jordan wrote, “The future of DACA is in the hands of the courts, but the lives of Dreamers have already become deeply rooted in the fabric of this country.” We know this to be true. You are not just Dreamers—you are teachers, nurses, business leaders, community advocates, and so much more.
